Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.

They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting.

Work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures. Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work.

TARGET MARKET

The target market for this course is international students:

  • who possess an appropriate visa that allows them to study at an Australian registered CRICOS provider.
  • who wish to undertake this course to access further study or employment opportunities.
  • who have successfully completed year 12 or secondary studies in their home country or in Australia.
  • with little or no vocational experience.
  • who are 18 years of age at course commencement.

Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology

60 weeks (include 50 weeks term time and 10 weeks holiday breaks.)
The delivery hours for this course are as follows:

  • Face to face classes with assessment – Classes are scheduled 2.5 days per week

The duration and schedule will consider the need for students to fully gain and develop the skills and knowledge that the assessment will assess. Allowing for variations of some students due to specific learning needs and time for students to reflect on their learning and practice the skills and knowledge in a real or simulated workplace prior to presenting for assessment

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or equivalent.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must be minimum 18 years of age at the time of commencement.

  • Practical training and assessment

Each unit is assessed individually. Each unit contains two or more assessment tasks that are undertaken in class or in the student’s own time. Some assessment tasks are open book, and some are closed book. Students will undertake in class assessments at the AIP campus at Level 1, 333 Queen Street, Melbourne, VIC-3000 Australia. All assessment activities will be conducted by AIP Assessors.

All students are provided with the opportunity to have their prior learning and experience assessed and gain recognition for this. Students who have successfully completed whole units of competency with an Australian Registered Training Organisation that are identical to any of those contained within this course can apply for Credit Transfer.

Upon successful completion of the 34 units of competency in this course, students will be issued a CPC30220 – Certificate III in Carpentry and a Record of results. If a student successfully completes some but not all of the units of competency in the course, they will be issued a Statement of Attainment indicating the units they have successfully completed.

PATHWAY INFORMATION

Training Pathway

After achieving this qualification, individuals could progress to Vocational Certificate qualifications such as MSF40222 Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Technology.

Employment Pathways

Successful completion of this qualification may provide career opportunities as Furniture Designer, Wood Machinist, CNC Operator, Shopfitter/Joiner, Caravan Fitter, Coffin Maker, Chair/Couch maker, antique restorer/reproducer, Boat Building.
