Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building).

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of building and construction practitioners of small to medium-sized building businesses. Once qualified, you will be able to work as a builder, manager, or supervisor dealing with low rise construction projects.

The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across Australian States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.

This qualification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).

Course Duration
We allow up to 9 months to complete this course, although your actual completion time may be less depending on prior experience and the time you commit to your study. This program is scheduled to be delivered in 39 workshops of 380 hours of structured face-to-face, 220 hours of structure simulated or workplace assessment and remaining 220 hours self-paced and/or work place learning.

RPL and Credit Transfer
RPL allow you to move straight into the assessment; but you required to provide valid, relevant, sufficient and current evidence/s for each unit of competency bases within this qualification.

Entry Requirements
There are no general entry requirements for this qualification but you must sufficiently proficient in language, literacy and numeracy to be able to work successfully in a regulated environment. There are range of target groups that can benefit from this qualification, such as:

  • Businesses whom wish to affirm their employees’ skill sets to shareholders, investors and board members
  • Current Building Managers/Supervisors that wish to affirm their skills to their employers
  • Owner Builders who wish to better understand and be competent in building matters
  • Persons who wish to help facilitate the knowledge and skill set requirements for an application for a builders’ license to the building practitioner’s board
  • Injured or older tradespeople who may not be able to cope with the rigours of “swing the axe”, but who still have a lot of skill and knowledge that can be applied in a managerial capacity
  • Tradesmen and labourers whom wish to “get off the tools” etc.

Career/study pathways
Your primary pathway from this qualification may include employment in construction (Building) industry, such as a builder, site manager, construction manager, foreperson or wishing to start a small to medium sized construction business etc. Your further learning pathways utilising qualifications such as CPC50210 – Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and/or CPC50308 – Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) support your career progression.
